Yes these people done need it, but remeber they also dont need to run tournements or make maps but those are all part of the building blocks of this site.

That could definitely happen...

Perhaps this thread would be better off in the Suggs & Bugs forum?

I suggest that tournements also get such a thing as well. Both tournements and map makers play a large part of the site.

wicked wrote:Well, doesn't Lack give you a token of appreciation still for every map completed? Isn't your name splayed out on every map you created? I don't think badges will go over well, since they'll only be confused for mods. It's bad enough we have chat mods getting PM'd about forum issues, and mapper mods getting PM'd about non-map issues, etc.... Something like this would only add to the confusion. If you're doing it for the recognition, then I personally think you're doing it for the wrong reasons, but I guess you can always make your name bigger on the map! ;-)

And that's by people who are too ignorant to visit the map foundry anyway. The outliers who don't pay attention to "regulations" are not the majority who properly address questions to the right authority. There are always ignorant exceptions, but having that as the basis of your argument makes the entire argument fall on its face.

And yes, people who take their UNPAID and VOLUNTEER time out to make a tournament or a map happen deserve more recognition than their name on their work. Some people likely will never play D-Day or Siege, and not get to appreciate all the work Mibi has done for CC. That's just one example. Saying "but there is recognition already" does not consider cases where people aren't paying attention. A nice badge that demonstrates makmaker/tournament organizer dedication to CC is certainly not out of place in any sense of the word.

I am on vacation, but felt like responding to this while I have a few minutes. Thanks for the appreciation gimil, as well as others, but to be honest, if you give one organizer a badge, you have to give them to everyone, which means over 100 members with a badge saying "Tournament Organizer" or some such. It would be an absolute mess.

You can argue all you want about having to "earn" the badge as an organizer, but who is to say that the 30 tournaments I've run and the mass following I've accumulated because of it is better than an organizer who has only run 3 tournaments and still done an excellent job on them?

Despite which, if I have to deal with organizer's running around with badges it's only going to make life more difficult. Any new organizer that pops into the forums is going to start asking all the wrong people for answers to official questions that the organizers may or may not know the proper answer to.

Chaos will reign in the tournament forums, and then the big robot will get grumpy. Nobody wants to see the big robot get grumpy, TRUST ME. Some have, and they didn't like it at all. ;)

Medals would be a far better solution down the line as perhaps someone could design a nice medal for 1 map completed, and then 3, 5, 10, etc. No need to confuse people by adding tons of badges in and creating what looks to be official people who in all actuality are not.

As pointed out earlier, if mapmakers want the recognition they can design a sig that shows off their work. So can tournament organizers, tournament winners, XML coders, people who spend WAY too much time in the forums, anybody who has beaten lack (which is almost everybody ;) ), etc. I don't think we need to start handing out medals to everybody who does something around here. I already think there's to much crap associated with my posts in the forums - a badge, a redundant title, and a colorful name that sticks out like an uncentered army coordinate.

Agreed....but i think these badges should have a ranking system just like our game rankings....
pvt = under 50 contributions.....general = 3000 contributions or whatever. something to be decided upon.
That way encouragement to contribute more wo-uld push you up the rankings, but only where your comments are "originally relevant to the map" and not just for banter on map topics.

it's funny, those people who disagree with the idea already have badges. perhaps it's to retain your badge hegemony, eh.

That is one issue I already mentioned. If everyone had badges, there'd be confusion over who was staff and who had just made a map. We already have issues with people contacting the wrong staffer, thinking they're a mod who can answer their particular question, when they might not be. So yeah, it would be an issue in confusion.

How you mean everyone? I think that CC have some 20 map makers(more or less), and i dont think that someon MAp MAker will be angry,if get some messages abouth something, what they dont know nothing.

I don't think everyone needs badges. [insert cliched badges we don't need no stinkin' badges line]

Maybe a forum title would be better. It definitely adds that 'hey that person has something I don't' factor (which I don't care about and honestly I think is dumb). But, it draws attention and that is what this is about right? Drawing attention to the map foundry.

Although, I'm not totally in favour of this and I don't think I'd want a title/badge anyway. Though, if other people want it/think it'll help then I'm fine with that.

He he! that thought had crossed my mind too mibi, but i didn't want to commit it until someone else offered it first...thanks for being a forerunner!! :)

As for wicked's confusion over who was staff....perhaps the badges could be different design/size as staff badges that exist now. perhaps a small epilet (dont' think that correct spelling) would be suitable.
