Last week on CC was almost completely defined by the big
Valentine's Day event . This was the first Community Event overseen directly by BigWham. I asked some of the people who worked on producing this event to give me their impressions of how the day went.

There were some glitches and issues, and I certainly got some learning out of it that I want to take into the next event, but overall I think the event worked great, and I think the people that participated in it enjoyed it. I think we really got a good mix of activities and the overall balance of the event about perfect. This makes me confident about putting even more ooomph behind things and taking them even further! Here is an interesting snafu... I had initially thought, and announced accordingly, that exactly 32 players had achieved the 69 Hearts required - with the last player getting a gift from the Conquer Gods in the last 10 seconds of the event! I was all set to write up a little piece for the Dispatch about the glorious fortuity of this and how it is a sign the the Conquer Gods love CC... when I discovered that in fact, the player that got that last Heart, stealth99, was already in the ToC! stealth99 had achieved the impressive feat of attaining 2 lots of 69 Hearts! So, that kind spoiled a nifty narrative for us. Anyway, I have reached out to the player that was next closest to the 69 Hearts (thankfully there was not a tie) to offer them the spot, so the ToC should kick off soon. Here are some stats...38,246 Hearts issued 31 Players attained 69 Hearts (1 Player collected 2x69=138 Hearts!) 791 Games Created on Valentine's Day map 273 Doubles Games started - the most Doubles games started on a single day, for about 12 months 1,377 Speed Games - again, the most in a day for almost 12 months (both Doubles and Speed games have been sliding for some time) Overall website activity was quite high, particularly given that Friday is a slow day for CC. 4,403 games started in total is in the Top 10 days for the last 12 months, and the most for a Friday. Visitor and Page view data was also clearly higher. For further analytical contrast I also looked at the last 3 years of activity on Valentine's Day... and each year actually had a dip in overall activity. This is presumably because VDay is a day when people actually go out to do stuff. So, I think overall we got a pretty good result for our efforts!

It seems that the hardest thing for most people to find were Flowers but some got there in the end. Items were hidden in approximately 90 locations in the Forums but even so it still took quite a bit of work to come up with a full set. The mini contests were well participated and everyone seemed to have fun with the Love Names contest as well. Check out the comedy our chatters engaged in at our Love Names Gallery . All in all it was a great event and we all had fun!

Sempaispellcheck writes: We had a bunch of people submit entries to CC's Matchmaker contest - 44 entries were submitted before the initial deadline of midnight Wednesday, but the entries kept rolling in, so we extended the deadline to 6 PM Thursday, allowing an extra 14 players to find their CC Sweethearts. We sincerely hope that all 58 of you are happy with the matches we found for you. Another 14 entries came in even after 6 PM Thursday, but because the extended deadline had already passed, they could not be matched. 62 Sweetheart games were reported in the Matchmaker thread, earning 38 players a total of 642 Conquer Hearts, with 8 different players earning the maximum allotment of 25 Hearts each. 37 players signed up on Friday for the Morning After tournament as well, earning themselves a total of 320 Conquer Hearts. And best of all, our Valentine's Day map seems to have been quite a hit - over 200 doubles games were created on Friday, with more than 80% already started - and a few already finished! From my standpoint, this was a very successful event. I hope you guys and gals all had fun, and thank you all for keeping me busy this Valentine's Day! sempai
